Elm.
  A low-grade toothpick wood, abounding in coarse grains and defective 
  fibres.

Oak.
  King of toothpick woods.  Emperor Hsiu-T'ang of the Han Dynasty allegedly
  hade his toothpicks made of oak tipped with ebony (see document 
  #037.7), and according to some accounts could still gnaw through dog 
  bones at 106.
 
Cedar.
  Medium-grade toothpick wood favored by proletarians and slumming bourgeois.
